The stars are out in Marbella! Internationally renowned artistes perform at the third Starlite Festival

From 23 July to 23 August the Starlite Festival returns to the former quarry of Nagüeles in Marbella.

Thirty-one years ago three visionaries – Prince Alfonso von Hohenlohe, Julio Iglesias and Plácido Domingo – joined together to turn this quarry into a unique auditorium and create an internationally renowned music festival.

The auditorium was later restored and the Starlite Festival was held for the first time in 2012. After just two years, the festival has become an important event for tourism in the Costa del Sol.

Adapting the natural quarry and producing the festival for 2013 involved an investment of €3.1 million and created more than 270 jobs, with an overall economic impact of more than €40 million.

Internationally renowned stars of previous Starlite Festivals include Enrique Iglesias, Bryan Adams, Paco de Lucia and Miguel Bosé. A long, distinguished list of international artistes will be performing at the third Starlite Festival, including Julio Iglesias, Alejandro Sanz, Miguel Poveda and Tom Jones.

The festival also offers gastronomic specialities, cinema screenings, fashion shows, art events and the ever-popular Starlite Lounge. On 23 July iconic band The Beach Boys will perform along with Mike Love, Bruce Johnston, Christian Love, Randell Kirsch, Tim Bonhomme, John Cowsill and Scott Totten.

Grammy award winning artiste Ricky Martin will appear on 25 July. He is the leading Latin Music figure of his generation, famous for his instinctive rhythm and passion for performing. The singer from Puerto Rico released his second World Cup song “Vida” as a single in April 2014.

For decades, famous British duo and electronic synthesiser pioneers Pet Shop Boys turned their pop concerts into modern art spectacles. On 30 July they present their latest album “Electric”.

Exquisite opera will be presented on 3 August by the soprano Mirusia, known worldwide as “The Angel of Australia”, and baritone Elchin Azizov, principal soloist of the Bolshoi Theatre Opera Company.

Julia Iglesias will play on 13 August, and charismatic British singer Tom Jones will enchant audiences on 17 August.

Memories of the 80s will come up with “Otra Noche Movida”, when unforgotten stars like Los Secretos, Jaime Urrutia (Gabinete Caligari) and Nacho Vega (Nacho Pop) will take to the stage together on 15 August.

The show “Tributo a ABBA” will feature iconic hits including “Mamma Mia”, “S.O.S.”, “Money, Money, Money”, “Dancing Queen” and “Waterloo”, the song that won the band the Eurovision Song Contest.

Global super star Alejandro Sanz is back to Starlite for the second year. His concert in Marbella on 22 August will be his only scheduled show in Spain for 2014.

Ticket prices range from €29 to €695.
