Ibiza’s Best Coastal Restaurants Open Year Round

Ginger at Sa Punta, Talamanca

Ginger2

With orchid-inspired hanging lanterns reminiscent of the singing flowers in Alice and Wonderland, and bursts of Balinese colour, this East Asian inspired hangout is a tropical treasure. A little above Talamanca bay, amongst dense clusters of bushy pine trees, Ginger is the third and most recent island venture of extremely cool French owners Rodolph and Rita – inspired by the couple’s numerous exotic travels. The twinkling Mediterranean peeps through the canopy of fuscia parasols (you can make out the iconic outline of Dalt Vila) and the menu is full of delectable Asian-fusion dishes from Vietnamese spring rolls to zingy dumplings. A total feast for the senses in this kitsch colourful rooftop haven!

Bar Flotante, Talamanca

??????l

Great for breakfast or a refreshing afternoon aperitivo, this diminutive cafe is almost right on the water (hence the accurate label “floating bar”). Locals gather on the narrow sunny terrace like emperor penguins, perched facing South. The 8 euro menu del dia is fantastic value, and with Hostal Talamanca right next door, there is a relaxed buzzy vibe.

Restaurante Passion, Marina Botafoch

ibiza-passion-cafe

A well-loved member of the Passion group founded by Lana Love, this shabby-chic hotspot is a mecca for all things healthy and organic. Overlooking a marvellous flotilla of superyachts bobbing in the glamorous Marina Botafoch and across the water to Dalt Vila, Restaurante Passion is a thriving hub enjoyed by locals and visitors alike. This upbeat eatery serves simple healthy dishes and exquisite smoothies just the way we like them, whizzed up in a tranquil pastel-hued space flooded with natural light.

Sa Calma, Marina Botafoch

IBZ-Calma 3

Lovely Sa Calma is situated just behind Lío, in the luxurious Life Marina. This informal bistro offers postcard-perfect views of Dalt Vila, whilst near-permanent sunshine glints off the protected harbour’s tranquil water and a stream of impressive mega yachts glide in and out. They serve up tasty Mediterranean cuisine year round.

If your sleek seafaring vessel doesn’t happen to be moored in the marina, fear not! The Ibiza taxi boat (most definitely the next best thing) zips to and fro from the opposite side of the harbour, docking a few feet from Sa Calma’s suntrap terrace – thoroughly handy for popping into town after an early morning coffee, or afternoon class of rosado (be careful not to fall in!).

Cappucino, Marina Botafoch

Cappucino

The team at Cappuccino take their coffee most seriously indeed. Renowned for some of the best brew on the white isle, Cappuccino’s tranquil terrace is perfect for enjoying a morning newspaper as the harbour comes to life. The soundtrack is always on point too (be sure to check out their fantastic in-house playlists and mix CDs), and blends perfectly with the soothing sounds emanating from the waters edge. The sheltered terrace, parallel with that of Sa Calma, is equally ideal for a relaxed evening drink with friends – take a cosy pashmina to deter any fresh ocean breezes and enjoy the twinkly lights of Dalt Vila across the way.

The Cotton Beach Club, Cala Tarida

cotton2

Blindingly whitewashed furnishings contrast with the Technicolor hues of the gorgeous beach below at this slick beachside restaurant perched atop the cliffs above Cala Tarida. The island’s biggest success story of 2014, Norwegian-owned CBC’s namesake is the original Harlem-based Cotton Club, frequented by the likes of Duke Ellington. But this is no shy and retiring speakeasy, and whilst you won’t find jazz trumpeters swinging from the chandeliers, you can expect plenty of cool cats, dancing on the furniture and glitz with a plethora of in-demand DJs on speed dial. The epitome of Balearic chic is 100% cotton.

For a more understated experience (without compromising the stunning views), tiptoe onto the restaurant’s former sundeck, which was recently transformed into “Fay” (it means Cotton in Thai) – an intensely Zen Asian eatery perfect for observing the bustle below, whilst firmly maintaining the lotus position.

The Cotton Beach Club also host fantastic outdoor cinema nights showing well-loved classics in a magical setting with the moon reflecting off the water below – heaven!

Puertas del Cielo, Santa Agnes

puertasdelcielo

Not quite beachside, more birds-eye – this aptly titled, family run restaurant is concealed in a dense pine forest perched on the cliff tops above Santa Agnes. This incredibly romantic spot boasts heartbreakingly beautiful panoramic sea views and serves up simple seafood dishes in glorious surroundings. Surprisingly reasonable given the majestic setting, stay and watch the vivid blue sky fade to a burst of orange at sunset and be sure to remember your camera!

Es Restaurant, Cala Nova

atzaro2

But a few metres from the seashore, this relaxed chiringuito-style eatery is the latest addition to the Atzaró Agroturismo tribe. The aesthetic is a cool blend of whitewashed driftwood, breezy canopies and electric turquoise accents in keeping with the vivid hues of Cala Nova’s crystal water. Serving up a light, fresh and healthy menu in keeping with Atzaro’s holistic attitude, highlights of which include traditional rice dish Fideuá, fresh squid and Rotja (a locally caught fishy). Es Restaurant is uber family-friendly, with a supremely well-appointed kids corner, themed activities and not to mention the completely empty white-sand beach for them to roam upon!

Boasting many sophisticated influences and famously warm hospitality of owners Victor Guach and Philip Gonda, Es Restaurant Atzaro is perfect for taking in the natural beauty of Cala Nova, with sweeping views of millionaire’s paradise, private island Tagomago and the iconic red cliffs this part of the island is known for.

Sa Caleta, Platja d’es Bol Nou

SaCaleta

Sa Caleta is a historic sailor’s refuge with a beautifully appointed terrace overlooking the pretty beach of Es Bol Nou. This minute rocky inlet, protected by vividly rusty red headlands, is home to neat rows of ramshackle fishermen’s huts by the shallow crystal waters’ edge. Serving succulent freshly caught fish all year, Sa Caleta is a true island hideaway perfect for enjoying Ibiza’s 320 days of sunshine in style!

(If you fancy working up an appetite, be sure to seek out the ancient Phoenician ruins just around the corner – they were one of the first ever UNESCO World Heritage sites!

Rincon Es Codolar, Es Codolar

rincon

A perfect spot for an early morning beachside café con leche with your morning paper, Rincon Es Codolar is a serene chiringuito set atop the shiny grey pebbles of Es Codolar beach. One of the island’s longest and quietest beaches, and set within the Ses Salines Natural Park, it’s an ideal corner for walking the dog or taking in the typically brisk sea breeze in this part of Ibiza. Sit at the tiny wooden bar and sink your teeth into a tasty homemade empanada – Ibiza’s answer to a crumbly pasty in a simple Cornish surf shack back in ‘Blighty! (that is the UK for the non Brits!).

Yemanja, Cala Jondal

Yemanja2

Tucked into Cala Jondal for over 30 years, this idyllic hotspot is an Ibiza institution. As the majority of the island hibernates throughout the off-peak season, Yemanja serves up delicious, great value food 365 days of the year! The beachfront terrace is a sheltered suntrap, and a breath-taking vantage point overlooking the cove’s crashing waves.  A family-friendly haven for leisurely lunches in the sunshine, I recommend you batten down the hatches and stay ‘til sunset. With the entire beach practically to yourself, the views are spectacular – it’s very special!

Babylon Beach Club

IBZ- Babylon 1 hi res

This much loved Santa Eulalia establishment is perched on the way out to Es Canar. Known as a family-friendly haven, this cool beach club caters to the “Babylonitos” whilst parents unwind and/or party on down. They serve up a mean Sunday Roast – perfect for a lazy Autumn Sunday surrounded by a big noisy crowd of family and friends, as well as showing the big premier league football games on Sky (which goes down a treat with the expat locals!).

Restaurante Cala Salada, Cala Salada

calasalada

Cala Salada’s tricky access with many steps keep much of the tourist crowd at bay, and is stays fairly tranquil year-round. One of the most rustic beaches in the area, the cove is home to Restaurante Cala Salada – a firm favourite among long-time locals. Enjoy unctuous arroz dishes and traditional Spanish bites barefoot in the sand.

Alternatively, when it closes over the cooler winter months, teeter over the neighbouring rocky outcrop to Cala Saladita – a tiny, secluded beach ideal for claiming your very own picnic patch. The aforementioned Passion Restaurant put together fantastic picnic hampers for day-trippers and yachts – grab some delicious wraps and you are all set!

La Belle Ibiza

La-Belle-Ibiza-28

Though not strictly (or even remotely) close to the sea, this French-owned Saint Rafael hotspot epitomises easy-going summer vibes and conjures instant images of the coast with its effortless seaside style.

La-Belle-Ibiza-03

Great for those rare grey days on the island, when you’re pining for the beach. There is even a tiny cocktail shack sitting across a charming courtyard illuminated with pretty fairy-lights – sparkly enough to brighten even the dullest of days this Autumn.
