“On the Paseo Maritimo near the Calipolis hotel. Well, who doesn’t know the PicNic? It’s a classic in Sitges, busy in summer and winter. Great for families to have lunch on Sunday, and you can bring your dog too! Very affordable.”

Port d’Aiguadolc

SITG - Port 2

“Don’t forget the yacht harbour in Sitges, its a little bit out of town but on walking distance along the new paseo of San Sebastian playa. Plenty of nice restaurants and bars, and La Pacha for the ultimate clubbing experience. It lacks a little bit of a vibe in winter, but in summer it a great place to be if you would want to get away from the hustle and bustle of Sitges town.”

Gabriels, Olivella

SITG - Gabriels 1

“A few km inland of the cosmopolitan town of Sitges, you’ll find the medieval town of Olivella, located in the middle of the Natural Park of the Garraf. This quiet and beautiful medieval town is very much worth a visit, and serves as a good basis to hike or mountainbike in the natural park. Right next to the city hall, a small oasis with a Mexican feel to it has been created by Gabriel, the originally French owner of this friendly restaurant. Gabriels offers a mediterranen cuisine with a choice of specials on the menu. You’re invited by the charming owner to enjoy the extensive salad buffet. And all this at great prices. It is open all year round, from Thursday through Saturday for lunch and dinner and on Sundays for lunch only. It is more than worth the detour.”

Sitges Carnaval 2014

sitges-carnival-4

“There are only a few regions in Spain where Carnaval is celebrated: in Cádiz (Andalucía), Gran Canaria and in Catalunya, where Sitges Carnaval is the most famous one. It is a not to be missed and amazing show that lasts for an entire week. Its famous parades, called Rúas, are a true display of aesthetic and artistic creativity, featuring some 50 wagons, 2,500 participants and an expected 300,000 visitors. For a few days Sitges turns into a piece of Rio at the Mediterranean, with all the costumes, feathers, makeup and fantasy models included. The highlights are the Carnival Sunday, when at 7.30pm occurs the Rua Disbauxa parade, with thousands of participants touring the city center. On Tuesday at 7.30pm the Mardi Gras parade features, which follows the same route and attracts even more visitors. It all ends at Ash Wednesday, when the funeral of the Carnestoltes is being celebrated.”

Parc del Foix and Castell de Castellet

“The Foix Park is the most prominent wetland of the Alt Penedes and the Garraf counties, thanks to the Foix river that finds its origin inside the Alt Penedes and, after crossing the region from north to south, flows into the town of Cubelles, some 10 kilometers south of Sitges. The centerpiece of the park is the swamp, inaugurated in 1928, at the foot of the medieval village of Castellet, located on a hill and crowned by a very photogenic castle. In this protected area you can observe the pine forests of white pine and it is a meeting point for numerous birds, since over 143 species have been cataloged. Its a great place to hike around, lounge by the lake or to have a picnic under the pine trees along the lake with your family, especially when it gets hot at the coast in summer. Unfortunately it is not allowed to swim in the lake, since it is a water reservoir, but that should not spoil the fun.”
