Celebrity Gossip November 2014: Spain says farewell to national treasure, the Duchess of Alba, and welcomes a host of international celebrities
Spain bids farewell to sensational Duchess of Alba
Spain’s wealthiest, most titled aristocrat sadly passed away last week aged 88. Cayetana Fitz-James Stuart led an extraordinary life and was famed for her flamboyant bohemian style and exuberant nature. The extravagant royal matriarch had a penchant for kicking off her shoes to dance barefoot with reckless abandon alongside the local people of her adopted city, Seville, despite her enormous fortune and holding more titles than the Queen of Great Britain. The Duchess maintained her zest for life well into her eighties.
4,500 mourners joined the Duchess’ widower, six children, nine grandchildren and extended members of the Spanish royal family for a remarkable farewell at the magnificent Seville Cathedral. She will remain one of Spain’s best-loved and most iconic public figures, who touched the lives of many with her signature head of curls, fun-loving nature and bold style.
Hollywood Actor Alec Baldwin set to embark upon Spanish property search
Hollywood Star Alec Baldwin is planning to buy a house in Madrid after falling in love with Spain on a recent trip across the pond with his Spanish wife Hilaria Thomas. The 30 Rock star revealed his newly kindled passion for Iberian culture in a recent interview with El Mundo, describing his tour of the nation visiting his wife’s childhood friends and family as well as exploring the capital’s phenomenal gastronomy. The notoriously private actor even expressed a soft spot for Spanish paparazzi, who are apparently more charming than their American counterparts.
Lady Gaga goes incognito and falls for Marbella
The ever-eccentric, lovely Lady Gaga enjoyed some down time cycling through Marbella last week whilst on a brief break from her artRave world tour. Contrary to her usual outlandish looks, the international superstar remained relatively demure in an all black ensemble. The resort evidently made a positive impact on the singer, as she posted “Goodbye Marbella, your beautiful oceans, sunshine and friendliness have rejuvenated me” on Instagram before departing. There has been a great deal of speculation that Gaga is looking to buy a seafront property in the glamorous coastal town. Could we be seeing a lot more of Lady Gaga as she makes Marbella a more regular destination?
Sam Claflin tops off incredible year with Madrid premiere
Man of the moment actor Sam Claflin represented the all-star cast of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 (or should I say, “Los Juegos del Hambre: Sinsajo Parte 1”), at the film’s Madrid premiere. Speaking to Antena 3 on the red carpet at the Callao cinema in Madrid, the debonair 28-year-old enthusiastically shared his admiration for the blockbuster franchise’s Spanish fans, described as some of the most loyal, he has encountered. Claflin has had a helluva year, starring in several of 2014’s highest grossing films in this country. Perhaps we will be seeing him make more frequent visits to the Spanish capital following such a warm reception!
